Culture & History in Abu Dhabi

Did you know that Abu Dhabi is filled with cultural spots? The late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, founder of the UAE knew the importance in which history and our past plays in our future, and very beautifully said:


“He who does not know his past cannot make the best of his present and future, for it is from the past that we learn.”

So many times I hear residents and tourists complain about the lack of culture in Abu Dhabi, so to celebrate the Year of Zayed, I have compiled my favourite historical & cultural destinations in Abu Dhabi, which should be on everyone’s list when visiting our beautiful city.

  1. Louvre Abu Dhabi  – speaks for itself and a must visit!

  2. Manarat Al Saadiyat – an impressive gallery which features various works of exhibitions throughout the year and now features a beautiful Art Studio for budding artists.

  3. Wahat Al Karama – commemorates the fallen Emirati soliders

  4. Heritage Village offers visitors a glimpse into Bedouin life

  5. Qasr Al Hosn  located in the heart of the city, this landmarks holds the oldest building in Abu Dhabi which was used as a watch tower

  6. Women’s Handicraft Centre – dedicated to the education and preservation of traditional Emirati handicrafts

  7. Founder’s Memorial commemorates the late Sheikh Zayed Al Nahyan, and is designed to represents stars in the sky

  8. Warehouse 421 a hub of creativity and contemporary art

  9. Mamsha Al Khair inspirational quotes dotted along the Corniche

  10. Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque – not only the #1 TripAdvisor sight in Abu Dhabi, but a place of majesty and tranquility and boasts the world’s largest hand woven carpet!
