A few weeks ago, I wrote a feature about my favourite part of Dubai, also known as Old Dubai, which is filled with authentic souks, exotic scents and beautiful textiles. A few weekends later, I found myself exploring a more modern part of Dubai, which has automatically listed itself ALSO, as my favourite place to visit. The latest concept under the portfolio of Meraas – the genius developers behind City Walk, The Outlet Village, Last Exit and The Beach, to name a few – is nestled between the clear blue Arabian sea and the striking city skyline in the posh neighbourhood of Jumeira 1.
La Mer Dubai is a beachfront development spread along almost 2.5 km of white sandy beach, designed in a relaxing style utilizing plenty of wooden elements, accented with quirky lights, and is connected with wooden boardwalks. Apart from the striking sea side scenery, little ponds and water fountains are scattered along the promenade, complete with towering palm trees. The strip is dotted with colourful cottages which serve as showers for those who enjoy a refreshing dip in the sea, and the occasional pop up food stalls selling yummy things like fresh coconuts, icy juices, corn on the cob, and authentic gelato!
The beach is the crème de la crème of the project, emphasizing both recreation and relaxation, and is open to anyone with free entry (small charge to rent sun-loungers and umbrellas). The kids are totally in for a treat at Hawa Hawa, a cool inflatable playground, developed in Japan, which features high and low impact dunes.
An eccentric collection of over 20 restaurants are open at La Mer some of which include: Bareburger, HQ, Amorino, Backyard BBQ, Aprons & Hammers, Mr. Greek, and Motomatchi. Each one designed to complement the overall marine look and feel of La Mer, plus you really can’t miss the unique and creative canvases, which pose as the perfect Instagram backdrop. Shopaholics can enjoy chic boutiques like L’Aqua, Via Rodeo, LA based label, Trina Turk, Sephora, and much more!
The project will be fully complete by early next year and will feature a water park, cinema, and many more restaurants and shops! With the weather at it’s absolute best in the UAE, now is the best time to enjoy some chilled out vibes at La Mer!
